Community Show: Inside Reltio IDE: Build Business Configurations Faster with AI

Our most recent community show introduced Reltio IDE, a modern, AI-assisted development experience for building and managing Reltio business configuration. The session, led by Ankur Gupta, Principal Product Manager, and Snehil Kamal, Senior Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, walked through why Reltio invested in this experience, who it's built for, and how it supports the complete configuration lifecycle — capped off with an extensive live demo.

Session Details

Business configuration is at the heart of every Reltio implementation. As customer data models continue to grow in scale and complexity, having a significantly faster, simpler, and more intuitive experience for designing, evolving, and maintaining them matters more than ever. This session introduced Reltio IDE and showed how it brings together AI-assisted authoring, intelligent navigation, real-time validation, ontology visualization, deployment comparison, and version history into a single development experience.

Attendees learned:

  • What Reltio IDE is, and how its AI-powered development experience helps teams build, manage, and evolve business configurations faster and with greater confidence

  • How Reltio IDE supports modifying the data model, real-time validation, and version history

  • An end-to-end live demo of Reltio IDE and its capabilities

  • What's next on the roadmap

What Is Reltio IDE?

Reltio IDE is a modern, AI-assisted experience for building and managing Reltio business configuration, available for both VS Code and Cursor so teams can choose the development environment that best fits their needs. It's designed for the full range of teams involved in configuration: data modelers and configurators get faster authoring, guided creation, and immediate validation; solution architects can more easily understand model structure and dependencies before applying a change; developers and implementation teams can incorporate configuration work into their existing Git and development practices; and administrators and governance teams gain clear visibility into what changed, who changed it, and what will be applied to the tenant.

Key Capabilities

Ankur walked through the core capabilities that make up the IDE experience:

  • Structured navigation: As configurations grow to include many entity types, relationships, attributes, and hierarchies, Reltio IDE organizes these objects into a structured, searchable view so teams can locate what they need, understand dependencies, and assess the impact of a change — without wading through a sprawling configuration.

  • Guided and AI-assisted authoring: Users can create new objects through guided, click-through actions with intelligent code completion, or describe what they want in natural language — for example, asking the IDE to create an employee entity type with relevant attributes and a reference to the organization — and the IDE will infer the necessary references and structure automatically.

  • Real-time validation and ontology view: As changes are made, the IDE validates the configuration in real time and highlights issues immediately, along with guidance on how to resolve them, so problems are caught while authoring rather than at deployment. The ontology view provides a visual ERD-style representation of entity types and their relationships, useful for reviewing new relationships or communicating designs to stakeholders.

  • Deployment comparison and version history: Before applying a change to a tenant, users can compare versions and see exactly what was added, modified, or removed, then choose to apply, commit, or cancel. Configuration history tracks who made a change and when, and lets teams compare versions over time.

  • Git integration: Business configuration can now be managed directly from a Git repository rather than only through a live tenant connection, bringing branches, commits, peer review, and pull requests into the configuration workflow.

Live Demo Highlights

Snehil demonstrated the full workflow end to end. After installing the open-source Reltio IDE extension (available as a VSIX file from Reltio's public GitHub repo) into Cursor, he connected to a Reltio tenant using both browser-based SSO login and a bearer token, showing that multiple tenants across environments can be connected side by side.

Once connected, the demo showed the tree-style navigation of sources, entity types, and attributes; guided, right-click creation of new objects; and the ontology view rendering a live ERD of the data model. Using the Agentic experience inside Cursor, Snehil prompted the IDE to add a new "Employee" entity type with simple, nested, and reference attributes — the agent inferred the missing structure and created it correctly, without deploying anything until reviewed and applied.

The demo also highlighted safeguards for parallel development: the IDE maintains a baseline and working copy of the configuration, and blocks a push if the tenant has changed since the last fetch — preventing accidental overwrites when multiple developers or tools are working against the same tenant.

Finally, Snehil showed the Git-connected mode: cloning a repository containing per-environment business configuration files, making changes, committing to a feature branch, opening a pull request, and merging it — which in turn triggered a GitHub Actions pipeline that deployed the configuration to the connected tenant automatically. This showed how teams can adopt a fully governed, CI/CD-style deployment process for business configuration, separate from directly connecting to a live tenant.

Getting Started

Ankur closed by emphasizing how easy it is to get started: download and install the VSIX file from Reltio's public GitHub repo, install it into VS Code or Cursor, and start modeling within minutes — no additional licensing required for existing Reltio tenants. The team is continuing to add capabilities based on customer feedback shared during the session, and documentation, release links, and the extension download are all available on the doc portal.

The key takeaway: Reltio IDE helps teams build faster, understand more, and deliver business configuration changes with confidence — because every change can be reviewed before it's applied, in whichever mode (tenant or Git) best fits the way your business works.

The recording will be posted to community within 24 hours. If you have questions that weren't covered in this session, the Reltio team welcomes feedback and use cases directly.
