  • 1.  Tracking Audit attributes ( Create Date, Created By , Updated Date and Updated by) from streaming messages

    Posted 12-01-2023 00:24

    Hi All,

We are new to Reltio and still in the design phase. We are planning to read messages from Pub-Sub and load them into a separate Database like Snowflake or Alloy DB. We want to track the audit attributes at record level like for Golden records and each source records. In each Reltio published message, we see all these audit attributes under objects -> entity type. I guess all those will be for Golden records and,  for each source we should take the create date and updated date from the Crosswalk section.

    1) If the Source is updating any record, then the updated date for that specific source in the crosswalk is not getting changed in the message. Should not the updated date be changed for each update in the Crosswalk section for each source? Are we pulling the correct attribute?

    2) Also what should be the date format to keep? Some dates are formatted as EPOCH and some as mentioned as 2023-10-30T13:09:34.137Z in the messages.

If anyone can guide us on this then that will be really helpful.

    Thanks,

    Nilay,

The updateDate of a crosswalk is initially set to {now} when the crosswalk is created. After that I believe it is only updated if the JSON which is updating the crosswalk explicitly contains a value for updateDate.

Thanks for providing the input on this. Do you know why its designed like this? Should not the update date always be updated with NOW if there is any change in Crosswalk. Also there is no Created By and Updated By for Crosswalks. There is a chance that User can directly update the Crosswalk

Apologies but I don't know the reason why. Given this behavior however, the responsibility is placed on the external system to determine under what conditions the JSON should contain an explicit updateDate for that crosswalk field. You could include an updateDate anytime the crosswalk is posted or you could decide to only include an updateDate if the crosswalk's values change. One other thing. Remember that the crosswalk's updateDate works closely with the Recency rule. The Recency rule wants to calculate an attribute's OV based on the most recent value from each source system's point of view, NOT the value most recently posted to Reltio. Thus if you wish to use the Recency rule in the true spirit of its design, you should bring the LUD (Last Update Date) from the source record into the updateDate field of the crosswalk.
    Hope that helps
