Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake: A Business Solution

Reltio is a Master Data Management system that works to organize, condense, and store data in order to support businesses and help them reach their goals. Recently, Reltio developed Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake, a product that complements Reltio’s data management and adds its own value as well.

Please note: Everything covered in this blog and its associated webinar are intended only for informational purposes. The information provided outlines Reltio’s general product direction. It may not be incorporated into any contracts, and does not indicate a commitment. This information should also not be solely relied upon for purchasing decisions. Development, release, timing, and functionality of Reltio’s products remain at Reltio’s discretion.

Main Ideas

There are three main takeaways that we aim to touch on within this content. These main ideas are:

  • The business challenges many organizations face, and how Reltio and Snowflake together solve these challenges.
  • How the product works, and how users can set it up.
  • Where to find assets and resources that enable users to get started with Reltio and Snowflake together.

All of this, and more, are answered here and in the webinar linked above.

What is Snowflake?

You might be familiar with Reltio, but what exactly is Snowflake? Snowflake is a well-known data warehouse. The Snowflake platform can build a wide variety of workloads and applications on any cloud, data warehouse, data lake, and more. Users can even connect their choice of BI tools, apply data science, or use data analytical applications in conjunction with Snowflake.

Many businesses may benefit greatly from having Reltio connected data on one side, where they can bring in unified, trusted data, and Snowflake on the other. Snowflake can help businesses make better decisions and produce improved reporting.

Why Build Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake?

Reltio understands that all successful organizations today must be data driven to survive in this economy. Reltio also understands that businesses do not simply operate within one application. Instead, they utilize multiple applications, which run in a variety of environments. For instance, data for a marketing team is different from data intended for a finance team, etc.

This means that data is locked into siloed teams, with absolutely no way to connect the different technologies. This results in fragmented data that is outdated, inconsistent, and unavailable. Then, this poor quality data is fed to BI, operational, and machine learning applications. This leads to poor customer experiences, business decisions, and business outcomes.

Reltio is one of the systems that comes in and unifies this data, working to optimize it for the good of the business. Often, the companies that use Reltio also use Snowflake.

Solutions Found Through Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake

Customers that use both Reltio and Snowflake want some way to populate Snowflake with the unified, reliable data built in Reltio. Then, they want Snowflake to provide their quality reporting and decision support.

Furthermore, two personas tend to benefit from this use of data- business users and data scientists. A business user needs data to derive good business insights. Data scientists need quality data to build analytical applications or build machine learning algorithms. Reltio and Snowflake together resolve the challenges both personas face.

In other words, when using the Reltio Connected Data platform and Snowflake combined, users can leverage trusted data to fuel their business decisions AND operational systems. Reltio will help build the customer 360 view, empowering good customer experiences and increasing customer satisfaction, leading to higher revenue. All told, Snowflake and Reltio can enable an organization to adapt easily to changing business conditions, and also enhance productivity, which leads to better business outcomes.

To sum up, Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake’s business solution breaks down in this manner:

  • Businesses may send inconsistent warehouse data to Reltio. This data may come from any other application, like salesforce. Users can also send in data from multiple sources.
  • Reltio then cleanses and enriches the data, so it is clean, accurate, and reliable.
  • Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake then will load this data into the Snowflake environment, allowing users to work with trusted data within the Snowflake platform.

How Do Reltio and Snowflake Work Together?

Let’s break this down even further. First, any data source from any environment is loaded into Reltio. This data may be from enterprise application data, third-party data sources, omni-channel transactions and interactions, and analytical applications. (Snowflake is an analytical application). This data is loaded either by Reltio’s Data Loader or REST APIs. No other connector is needed. Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake is not needed to bring data INTO Reltio.
Reltio and Snowflake Better Together

After Reltio receives the data, it will scrub and deduplicate it, also known as the match and merge process. Then, it will standardize the data using Reltio’s PNP connector, and enrich it. During these operations, users take advantage of machine learning data validation rules, reference data, and various procreated Reltio algorithms to ensure we build safe, unified data with minimum manual effort. This ultimately builds that 360 view of the customer data.

Once the data has been built, Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake will send it to Snowflake either on demand or on a predetermined schedule. Then, data can be used across Snowflake’s multiple applications. Then, the business user can use the data to gain insights and drive well-based business decisions.

Note: Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake is the connector for data leaving Reltio and travelling to Snowflake. Extraction of data can still occur through multiple formats, like a traditional export, API, UI, or a bulk extract multiple operations. But, if the destination is Snowflake, you must use Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake.

What Data Goes Into Snowflake?

You may wonder if entity level, survived data is the only data that can be delivered in Snowflake. In fact, both this surviving data and crosswalk data from multiple sources can be delivered as source data into Snowflake. And, if you only need the operational value, this data can also transfer.

Setting Up Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake

While the process for setting up Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake warrants a longer explanation, it is really quite simple at its highest level. Overall, setting up is very quick and easy. It consists of three self-service steps. You will not need much technical assistance, as Reltio has made sure that set up information is available in the documentation

Reltio and Snowflake Easy Setup
  • First, register your Snowflake account. This is a simple API call.
  • Create the pipeline, or a data delivery definition. Basically, you will specify which objects need to be extracted from Reltio and delivered to Snowflake. You will consider what attributes are within the object and what things need to be excluded.
  • Then, you will trigger the job, which can be on demand or scheduled, depending on your preference.

Once the data is in Snowflake, you can run a query, run a BI tool, and much more. Because of the way that the data has been organized and delivered, consuming the data itself is easy.

We will continue to break this down, and especially go over the Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake set up, in further articles. Or, you can watch in real time on the linked webinar, Reltio Connected Data for Snowflake: An Overview.
